Packaging Project- Pattern

This is my pattern for the packaging.

I used a pen tool for drawing outline of the water drop.

I did not understand the tutorial <zoom in> part.

The easiest part was making a drop of water.

Also, it was easy to make a pattern and dragged from the swatch panel.

The hardest part was finding rectangular box and shifting.

I would like to show my pattern back of packaging.

It shows water so it is related to the product, drinks.

Packaging Project- Logo

This is the logo for energy drink, <Energee>.

I used specific colors in the mood board.

If people drink <Energee>, they will get energy.

I would like to show the effect of drinking this product.

The bottle of energy means energee, and blue line means water and energy.

I would like to demonstrate that people can get water and energy to drink this product.

I want to show water because water is needed when people are exercising.

Personal Logo Project 2

I made my second logo.

First, I made a laptop.

My company is a graphic design company so a computer is important to my company.

I made my typography on the screen.

It was hard to select appropriate fonts.

Finally, I chose the fonts which looks shiny because it looks like glitter on the screen.

My conpany name is on the screen so it looks memorable!

I made one more rectangle and used shere tool to transform it to side.

Then, I made a keyboard.

I made a enter key and space bar so it looks like real computer.

Also, I made seven tiny boxes and filled them with seven rainbow colors.

I wanted to show that my company uses various RGB colors to designs.

I filled the computer with pinkish purple color.

I chose this color because this color do not interrupt my seven RGB colors.

Finally, I made my background and filled it other color.

I made the shape of my laptop simple as possible.

I like my final logo!

Personal Logo Project

My graphic design company is <My design>.

I chose this name because my company provides design services to who is not popular.

The green circle is a smiling face.

I want to demonstrate that my company makes the consumers happy.

I made two eyebrows look similar to an letter, 'M'.

Also I put an letter, 'Y', it looks similar to a mouth.

I filled the face with green color because I think that green color feels fresh.

My company provides fresh and new design to all people!

Then I made my typography.

This logo is very simple but I expressed the features of my company.

Farmers Logo Project2

I recreated a logo of Farmers Insurance Company.

This is my second logo.

When I see the name of the company, I think of grains, fruits because of the word , 'farmer'.

This word sounds very familiar and friendly so I decide to use this image to my logo.

So I made several apples. However, apples looked complicated so I changed their shapes a little.

It now looks like a shape of a heart than an apple, but I think this is more simple.

Then, I put fonts in to apples. I made 7 apples because this company provides 7 services.

I wrote this company's 7 parts of insurance services so that people can understand well this company.

I grouped apples and arranged apples more neatly.

Then, I made a basket so that it can contain apples.

I wrote the company name in basket so that people can memorize easily.

Then I made a rectangle to be the background.

I filled the background to blue color because I thought the blue makes people calm and feel secure.

I think security is a important image to the insurance company because the insurance's purpose

is to protect people from accidents.

Finally, I made all the strokes to none so it looked like clean.

I like a farmers logo~

Create Logo Project

I created a 'Farmers insurance Company' logo.

I filled background blue color to feel calm and secure.

I think the most important image to insurance companies is security.

The blue background means house.

One of this company's services is covering house accidents.

The 'F' means older people, and 'r' means stick.

I wanted to show that this company provides good services to get older.

It was easy to type letters and made house to use sicssor tool.

It was difficult to make a person is curved.

Splat Project

This is the Splat Project. This was a really short project.

I used new tools, 3D Effect tool.

The easiest part was making splat symbols.

I made splats in Symbol Librariesand dragged them in to the Symbols panel.

The hardest part was 3D Rotating part in my name.

It was cool to made splat 3D but it didn't work well when I made my name. So slow~~

So I made 3D effect to each letter and adjusted the angle, perspetive, and surface:plastic shading.

I made the left corner of my letter 'a' is lighter purple color but 3D effect tool didn't work well

to other letters!

I made more splats and rotated each letters.

Finally, it looks like 3D! I really like 3D effect.

Personal Expression Project

This is Jina's Personal Expression PROJECT.

First, I used a Gradient tool in the background.

I made 2 stars, then clicked partfinder>divide and clicked stroke> none.

I made opacity of a star is 30% and used Symbol Sprayer tool and Symbol Sizer tool.

It was cool that a lot of stars are in my background.

Second, I opend my face ficture.

I clicked the Image trace and selected Tracing Options.

I set the Mode to Color and the Max colors to 15.

Then I chose Object>Ungroup and deleted the useless background.

Finally, I made a moon at the top left corner and make blend. The moon and stars are in my background!

I made a typography.

I used Text tool to write the adjectives that shows my personality.

I chose all of fonts very carefully. I think the fonts show the meaning of the adjectives.

For example, I used straight and solid fonts at 'confident, independent,  straightforward'.

Because I think that those adjectives show my strong and powerful characteristics.

On the other hand, I used decorative and cute fonts at 'sensitive, curious, cheerful, loving daughter, thoughtful'.

Because I think that those adjectives show my calm and sensitive characteristics.

Also, I made the word bigger to emphasize my characteristics.

The bigger word it is, the more I want to emphasize.

I liked the final copy !

Vector Project

I made a snowboard man and used various effect to him and the background.

First, I had difficulty on finding Live Trace. There was no live trace which is on the tutorial!

So I am confused on all wednesday but the neighbor said that this is diiferent version.

The easiest part on this project was creating the new snowboard man.

I deleted background with clicking a button. Then I filled the snowboard man with another color.

I went select>Same>Fill color. This step selected all other shapes with the same color.

It was so nice and easy effect. Also, the final step was easy. I grabbed the Text tool and wrote letters,

and choose nice gradient to fonts.

The hardest part was spraying background with the white rectangle.

I made a rectangle but I didn't know how to use the Symbol Sizer tool and Symbol Sprayer tool.

I learned that the Symbol Sizer tool enlarge shapes. However, the tool made the shapes shrinking

if I hold down the Alt key. It was fun to use Symbol Sprayer tool.

I can make a lot of shapes with that tool. It was first time to use these 2 tools.

Also, It was difficult to use gradient tool to the background.

I like the final copy!

Beautiful Lily Pad Project

I made lily pad using various tools.

First, I didn't know how to choose all the nodes in rows.

I learned to select all the nodes using the Direct Selection Tools.

It was easy to fill all the nodes with particular colors because

I only clicked color stroke none and fill with particular colors.

It was fun to use Warp Tool. I selected the Warp Tool and drag it from the outside edge of the leaf

towards its inside, then leaves are change.

The hardest part was making lily leaves.

I learned pen tool, but it's hard to use pen tool. I think I have to practice pen tool more.

Bell Work_ 16 October

Cute Basketball Player Project

This project was more easier than the last project because I used only basic shapes.

I can use Rectangle Tool and Ellipse Tool well now.

I learned Shape Builder Tool first time.

It was easy because I dragged on parts that need to be removed and only hold down the Alt key.

It was fun to make spirals to create his curl hair. I made spirals and use reflection effect first time.

I don't understand using the knife tool so I used the shape builder tool instead of them.

I think I have to use the knife tool next time.

The hardest thing in this project was making a basketball.

I made a basketball but it is little tricky to use the clipping mask to hide redundant parts.

I clicked the orange circle and select- arrange- bring forward many times.

Then I could make a basketball. It was difficult because that isn't on the tutorial.

My final image is so cute!

Pen Tool Sign Project

This is Jina Kim's pen tool sign project.

The hardest part of this project was making a pattern brush.

I made a light bulb and made a pattern brush.

However, I dragged to the line of the orange rectangle, but it didn't work.

The pattern brush even apperared in white rectangle, so I made pattern brush at white rectangle

and made one more white rectangle.

Also, I had difficulty on finding rounded rectangle tool because I'm not get used to illustrator tools.

On the other hand, the easiest part was typing letters inside of the rectangle.

It was easy because I just had to find similar fonts at fonts list and transform sizes.

I think I have to more get used to find illustrator tools.  This project was wonderful~!!

Pen Practice

Pen practice

It was easy to make a straight line because I had to only click anchor to anchor.

However, it was difficult to make a curved line.

I clicked anchor to other anchor, and dragged, but this line became strange.

I clicked every different anchor so finally, it didn't seem to be smooth circle line.

So I clicked anchors and made short lines to look like curved lines.

Typography Test

I chose this quote because it makes me think that today is how important and valuable.

I wanted to choose a font which leans somewhat toward the left

when I made "Yesterday is history" because I want to express the past.

The past has already gone.

In contrast, I wanted a choose a font which leans somewhat to ward the right

when I made "Tomorrow is a mystery" because I want to expree the future.

The future will come soon.

When I made "Today is a gift", I would like to choose a font which is very straight and solid.

I made "today" is bold font.

The present is now.

In addition, I thought that gift and present are very important words in this quote.

These two words are the synonym and has same, wonderful meaning.

Present has two meaning, today and gift.

This is very fun.

I wanted to use warm color so that people can realize the meaning of this sentence easily.

Also, I made "why" big, because this word makes me feel wonder after words and pause a little.

I like this quote and made typography.

Glyphic monster

<Jina Kim>

Left: Glyphic monster /  Right:Original character

It's difficult to make a head and body because this character has so many circle lines.

I rotated each glyphic by a little bit to look like circle lines.

I made his glasses bigger, then it became very thick.

So i made outlines of his glasses smaller and inline of his glasses bigger.

I would like to express this charater's cute, tiny arms and short feet.

I put glyphic together and make arm and feet.

I thought that too many glyphics looks bad.

I put many glyphics but I made glyphics very smaller in front of the stomach.

The name of orginal character is "Pororo". Pororo is a penguin.

This is very famous and popular character in Korea.

Q: Defines and describes "Leading" and "Kerning"

In typography, leading refers to the distance between the baselines of successive lines of type. The term originated in the days of hand-typesetting, when thin strips of lead  were inserted into the formes to increase the vertical distance between lines of type.

Kerning is the process of adjusting the spacing between characters in a proportional font, usually to achieve a visually pleasing result. Kerning adjusts the space between individual letter forms, while tracking (letter-spacing) adjusts spacing uniformly over a range of characters. In a well-kerned font, the two-dimensional blank spaces between each pair of characters all have similar area.

7 elements of Design

1. LINE

The simple line offers great variety. Lines have a position, a direction in space and a single dimension represented by their length. Lines may run horizontally, vertically or on a diagonal. Lines may be straight, curved, dotted, wavy, thick or thin. They subtly organize and direct the eye of the observer, leading him through the piece of art as if on a tour, giving direction and communicating movement. Lines can show texture and emotion.
2. COLOR
Color (also known as hue) is a wavelength of light.  Considering a piece of art, the observer may note the range of colors used or avoided. Color can evoke emotion or symbolically represent aspects of culture or society. Complimentary colors may create contrast, while analogous colors create harmony. Monochromatic colors demonstrate variations of a single color using various tints and shades. Colors may be cool or warm.

3. VALUE

Value (also known as tone) encompasses the light or dark aspects of color. Value also covers the contrast between light and dark on a scale from white to black. Value may demonstrate depth.

4. SHAPE
A shape is a closed line forming geometric or free-form/natural areas in space. Shapes may be two- or three-dimensional. Shapes have length and width and may show perspective. Shape as a closed line may also perform some of the duties of lines, giving direction and leading the observer visually. Circles and rectangles are examples of shapes.

5. FORM
Form encompasses three dimensions, adding depth to the length and width of shape. A pyramid, cylinder, box or ball represents a form. Both manmade forms and organic/natural forms exist. Shading may add the illusion of form.

6. TEXTURE
Texture translates the quality of a surface, representing its look and feel. The qualities of texture may range from soft to hard, smooth to rough, wet to dry. The look (or implied texture) does not have to match the feel (the tactile or real texture).

7. SPACE
Space represents the area around an object, within an object or between objects. Space may give the illusion or effect of depth. Positive space represents the subject of a piece. The area around objects may be referred to as negative space and acts as more than emptiness. Negative space serves to balance and to highlight positive shapes.
